Picento provides specialist photography services at theme parks and visitor attractions across the world. One such location is Blackpool Pleasure Beach, which is one of the UK’s top attractions and welcomes over 7.8 million visitors each season.

Along with traditional theme park photography – which typically sees visitors supplied with a 9×6 hard copy photograph – Picento’s innovative proposition offers customers the option to create their own digital album, accessed through its specially designed app.

Picento’s team of professional photographers take it to the next level, taking family portraits, group shots and romantic portraits of couples visiting the Pleasure Beach, which can then be viewed on large screens. If they wish, customers can then download the app and access the images, providing them with a lasting souvenir of their day and their own online photo album, to keep and use as they wish.

Concept

Picento approached Rapid Retail in need of a shop unit for a central location within the Pleasure Beach. The unit was to be used as a base for four Picento photographers, who would be taking photographs of visitors, next to the nearby ‘dancing water show’ – one of the most popular photo spots on the site.

The team needed a base close by, where they could take visitors and let them view the photographs and download the app if they wished. It also needed to offer space to sell other photo-based accessories and merchandise, to maximise upselling and cross selling opportunities.

Design

Rapid Retail produced a bespoke shop design, which would provide the team with what they needed to offer the full range of planned services.

Features included a large open hatch with worktop area, above which the screens would be mounted and used for viewings. Plus, a gallery wall area, lockable office space and separate personnel access doorway. The shop unit also needed to be robust and highly secure, which was a main consideration for its design. This saw the inclusion of features, such as two electric roller shutters.

Once the design was approved, the fully branded, 6M length x 3M wide x 2.5M height unit was built, delivered and installed by Rapid Retail’s expert delivery team.

Result

The result is an eye-catching and highly professional retail space, which is designed to capture the attention of passing trade. For the Picento team, it has created the ideal base from which they can converse with potential customers and promote their services.

Picento is now actively seeking to expand and take its unique offering into other theme parks and visitor attractions, with Rapid Retail first in line to help.

Client comment – Steve Lee, MD, Picento

“Originally, this operation had been based within a Haunted House, but when the building had to be demolished we needed to find a new base – and quickly. Searching on the internet I came across Rapid Retail and their solutions and experience looked perfect for what I needed.

“They went on to design and produce a bespoke unit, which looks fantastic and was tailored for my exact needs. There were some hurdles to overcome along the way, but we’re really pleased with the end result. They did a fantastic job and we will be calling on them again for our upcoming projects. I would highly recommend them.”
