A bespoke catering unit for a railway station location was the challenge that West Cornwall Pasty Co laid down for the team at Rapid Retail.
West Cornwall Pasty Co sells sells award winning pasties from its shops, which are based on the high street and in other high footfall locations. With shops in around 50 locations across the country, West Cornwall Pasty Co is the UK’s largest pasty operator, selling over 2.75 million pasties a year. Each shop provides food and drink options for customers to either eat in or take-away.
The company approached Rapid Retail to supply a catering unit for use on a busy train station platform.
The Rapid Retail team designed, produced and installed a 3m x 8m catering unit, complete with a storage room, ready for both cold and dry storage. The fully branded and powered unit complies with all relevant catering regulations, surrounding food preparation and fire safety. It can also be fully secured when not in use.
A key challenge of the project for Rapid Retail was managing the logistics of a build and installation at a train station. The team liaised with the railway team to ensure all health and safety requirements were met. Usually shop units in these types of location are constructed onsite, however the core part of the Rapid Retail unit arrived in one piece meaning a much quicker build time, which was far less intrusive for the station.
West Cornwall Pasty now has an eye catching and enticing catering unit, designed to capture sales from travellers passing through the station.
Another benefit of the unit being portable rather than static, is that it can be easily pulled out and put elsewhere if required.
