Working with world-leading brands, clubs and venues
EG Group has partnered with modular retail specialist Rapid Retail on the project, who designed, built and installed the bespoke shop unit in under eight weeks. It is the first time the two companies have worked together, with further installations now in the pipeline.
David Myers, UK Development Director, EG Group, commented: “We’re really pleased with the new retail unit. It looks fantastic and delivers on our commitment to providing premium retail convenience for our customers.
“Modular retail units are the perfect solution for us; they can be customised to our brand partners’ requirements allowing us to maximise the external space we have available on our sites. Fundamentally modular also enables us to minimise trading disruption. They are not only cost effective but look great and can be quickly deployed, which helps our pipeline planning across the EG Group portfolio.”
For a number of years Co-op have been one Rapid Retail’s biggest and most important clients. The services provided to Co-op are mostly logistical, transporting their pop-up stores to closed shop locations as temporary replacements.
Co-op walk-in portable shop
With room for several improvements, Rapid Retail was tasked with producing a new concept design for a temporary store. The main differentiating factor being that the unit would be configured to walk-in instead of walk-up.
For this to be possible the unit had to be larger, meaning less mobility. But the advantages to this style of shop are numerous in comparison to the burger-van-styled units of the past. These include:
American football recently returned to London as part of the NFL International Series.
Supporting visitors to get fully involved in the action and giving them an opportunity to take home a memento of their visit, Rapid Retail was asked to supply four large pop up shops ahead of the event.
The merchandising units, which are fully branded and include eye-catching NFL graphics, have been placed at key points around the stadium. They have been designed, built and installed by Rapid Retail on behalf of Fanatics, a global leader in officially licensed sports merchandise and a long-standing customer of Rapid’s.
Nick Daffern, MD of Rapid Retail, said: “We are delighted to have worked with Fanatics once again and the four new merchandising units we have supplied are already proving popular. They allow spectators to see, try and buy merchandise, generating valuable revenue while helping to enhance the overall experience for fans.
“The beauty of our portable retail units and kiosks is their flexibility. They can help brands make the most of all available external space, increase opportunities to make sales, reduce queuing times and take the pressure off bricks and mortar shops. All of which are very appealing for both venues, clubs and spectators.”
Having already supplied Crystal Palace with a large 9 metre walk-in pop up shop, Rapid Retail was asked to design, build and install a number of additional portable units.
These units were to be used as part of a new fanzone being created within the stadium. Opening three hours prior to kick-off, the 900m² fanzone was to offer pre-and post-match entertainment. It was to be divided into various sections, including live entertainment stages, a huge LCD screen, dining areas, shops and a football skills area.
There would also be a section for young fans to enjoy a ‘Fastest Shot’ machine, EA game station and a class room area with a range of activities to take part in, and chances to win prizes.
The units provided by Rapid Retail have helped to make the whole process very easy for Crystal Palace. They offer a highly cost-effective solution for providing activities and services within the fan zone, and are flexible enough to be used for a broad range of uses.
Picento approached Rapid Retail in need of a shop unit for a central location within the Pleasure Beach. The unit was to be used as a base for four Picento photographers, who would be taking photographs of visitors, next to the nearby ‘dancing water show’ – one of the most popular photo spots on the site.
The team needed a base close by, where they could take visitors and let them view the photographs and download the app if they wished. It also needed to offer space to sell other photo-based accessories and merchandise, to maximise upselling and cross selling opportunities.
Rapid Retail produced a bespoke shop design, which would provide the team with what they needed to offer the full range of planned services.
Features included a large open hatch with worktop area, above which the screens would be mounted and used for viewings. Plus, a gallery wall area, lockable office space and separate personnel access doorway. The shop unit also needed to be robust and highly secure, which was a main consideration for its design.
Once the design was approved, the fully branded, 6M length x 3M wide x 2.5M height unit was built, delivered and installed by Rapid Retail’s expert delivery team.
The start of the 2022/23 EFL Season saw the return of the popular Fanzone to West Bromwich Albion FC.
The Club is a forerunner in proving a complete match day experience for its supporters and utilises space outside the ground to engage and entertain supporters ahead of its games.
The Fan Zone is set up for each game on land owned by the Club which is rented to food retailer Greggs providing freshly prepared food at affordable prices and it is a very popular store. On Match Day the car park is transformed in the space of a few short hours with Rapid Retail stores being easily transported in from where they are conveniently stored just a few hundred yards away on a club car park.
The Zone, which welcomes all Fans attending the game consists of Food Outlets, Club Merchandise Store, Alcohol Outlets, a Fan Stage with entertainment and appearances by special guests and a giant screen showing highlights from previous games. West Bromwich Albion Community Foundation also provide entertainment for children with an inflatable pitch.
Retail Units are supplied by Rapid Retail to Fan Concessions and in our Video below Charlie Daffern, a Director of the Company explains how the Zone operates.
