A brief look at some of the facts and figures of Liverpool’s 18/19 season

After a fantastic end to the season in Europe and a heartbreakingly close run in the Premier League, we begin to look in more detail at the individual instances that made up this rollercoaster season for LFC.

It’s never easy to compare the performance of individual players in a squad after a season such as that one – after all, they are a team and playing as a team wins matches. Liverpool’s determination and belief, paired with that of their fans, could certainly be the key.

On paper however, we are able to identify some of the more prominent players on the pitch. Such as the Egyptian star Mohammed Salah scoring the most over the season at 27 goals. Salah’s ability on the pitch has captured the eye of football fans across the globe, and he’s shown no signs of slowing down since his arrival at LFC from in 2017.

A close second in terms of goals scored this past season is Sadio Mane – equally adored by Liverpool fans and fellow teammates – scoring a total of 26 goals for the club. Although his 5 assists don’t quite compare with Salah’s 13, his role in the team is no less important, consistently making his presence known on the pitch.

The English youngster Trent Alexander-Arnold tops the table of assists with 17 in total – 5 more than teammates Andy Robertson and the aforementioned Mohammed Salah. Playing as an attacking full back is a challenging role for many, and teams can easily squander their defensive strength with such attacking movements. However, Trent’s approach to the game demonstrates how effective this role can be when occupied by the right player.

Andy Robertson reflects a similar approach to his game, with the addition of some incredible slide tackles in crucial moments. As a pair of fullbacks, it would be hard to find a better duo in the Premier League.

The addition of Virgil van Dijk to the squad has certainly strengthened Liverpool’s back 4. Not only can he be seen shutting down attacks with ease on a regular basis, but he also bagged himself 4 assists and 6 goals over the course of the season… Not bad for a centre back!
