Temporary Portable Retail Stores ensure Co-op stores continue trading during nationwide refurbishment programme

Portable retail unit specialists, Rapid Retail, is about to embark on a full service provision for The Co-operative Group. From January 2016*, the company will manage nine portable retail stores for the Group’s food retail empire, which will travel up and down the country. The temporary portable retail stores will be positioned outside Co-op supermarkets to support the massive national refurbishment programme that the Co-operative Group is engaged in. The demount-able stores will trade when the main outlet is closed to provide Co-op customers with their essential requirements.

In a recent company press release, the Co-op announced that, during the last 12 months, Co-operative Food has carried out over 110 new store launches and over 250 store refits. The retailer is responding to the consumer changes which is seeing more people shopping little and often, conveniently – shoppers buying for tonight, or for the next two or three, days, rather than shopping for the week or month. With people living busy lives and deciding what to eat just a few hours in advance, spontaneous shopping and a shift in social and lifestyle agendas, has led to a growing number of people planning meals less and turning to shopping little and often.

Rapid Retail is best known for changing the face of retail at British and European sports stadiums. Its unique modular shop units and kiosks can be seen at some of the most famous venues in the world, including Wembley Stadium, Stade de France, Twickenham, Lord’s, Old Trafford, the Emirates Stadium, Parc des Princes and Camp Nou. From shops and offices to catering units and bars, the company’s bespoke and highly visible units provides clients with a quick, effective and eye-catching retail accommodation solution.

The Co-operative Group is one of the world’s largest consumer co-operatives, owned by more than eight million members. It is the UK’s fifth biggest food retailer operating across the country with almost 2,800 local, convenience and medium-sized stores.
